Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro
Caline and I recently took a staycation at the new Grand Hyatt Rio. We used our expiring Category 4 free night from our Chase Hyatt card to book a basic room and then paid cash to upgrade to a suite.
Even without the upgrade, the Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro is an excellent use of a category 4 free night.
While we put together a full, detailed review, here are 10 photos to give you a feel of the property!

The hotel is located in the Barra de Tijuca neighborhood and is directly across the street from the beach.
At check-in we received two coupons for a drink and snack at the pool bar, worth roughly R$50 per person.
Our standard room had an ocean view, but the front desk agent sold us on the suite with a view of both the lagoon and ocean. We were very happy with our decision.
The Ocean Lagoon Suite had a large living room with a wrap around balcony, a bedroom, walk-in closet, and two bathrooms.
With our suite, we had access to the lounge which offered a complete breakfast and happy hour. The lounge is enormous and has views of the lagoon and ocean. Certainly, an easy place to have a few beverages.
The pool was excellent, with plenty of seating options – including cabanas for rent – and drink service.
There are technically two pools, but only because one was converted from a display/coin catcher into a wading pool.

Overall our stay was amazing. Since rates can easily surpass US$300, using our free night was a good value.
Our biggest regret was not bringing Emily, because she would have LOVED the pool. This hotel is great for couples and families, so we can’t wait to go back.
